At the invitation of the amazing Shaunn Casselle, I took the Cheats Movement camera to Pine Camp Community Center last Friday to cover opening night of the, “Sweet Science,” art exhibit. I was extremely taken by the wonderful Style Weekly Cover Story: Fighting Chance, written by Scott Bass, about Jerry Royster and his wonderful boxing program with Richmond City Parks and Recreation.
The “Sweet Science,” art exhibit took the story one step further. Richmond Parks and Recreation formed a program that focused on teaching the youth at Battery Park’s community program photography skills. The Battery Park youth photographed the boxing program and are now displaying their work at Pine Camp. The art exhibit is youth photographing youth – a true everybody wins scenario.
It’s a relatively small exhibit which means you can check it out in a few minutes. It’s well worth the trip. Kudos to Style Weekly for the wonderful cover story on this positive program and kudos to Richmond City Parks and Rec for making it a positive experience for more than one community center. WE SEE IT!
