Charged Up Ent. took over the Broadberry in Richmond on Friday and Saturday for their birthday weekend. You can say what you want about RVA’s hip hop scene but last weekend proved that all aspects of hip hop in RVA are alive and well, from the beat battle to MMG’s Stalley tearing down the stage. Charged Up Ent. hosted what can only be described as one of the best weekends for hip hop in the city this year. The weekend was well deserved celebration for Charged Up Ent.: Noah-O – Chubbs – the entire C.U.E. family represents a level of authenticity that is rare to find in Richmond’s hip hop community. It’s important to stress that Charged Up does what they do for the love of music and the love of family. The future is bright for C.U.E they just released Yung Yankee’s project and have a few more in the pipeline. I salute them for a successful birthday weekend and look forward to working with them again.
There were a number of opening acts before Stalley and they all represented hip hop to the fullest. OneTakeDrew, YoungN’, 3 Way Slim, Fatman Slim, Kane, Octavion Xcellence, Yung Yankee, Noah-O, and I know I’m missing one (somebody hit me up and tell me). The stage was hosted by Oktane and Samonay – And of course I saw you Black Reed…all over the mic. DJ Lil Jay held it down all night. And Stalley is truly a solid live performer. Any one that follows him, knows that he makes quality music, but his stage presence maybe underrated. He controlled the stage – even with way too many cameras – way too close. He interacted with the crowd and made all of RVA fans of his latest track “Ball” which he performed 3 times. It was a great night.
