What’s good family. I’m excited to start a new series of post that will introduce you to the Satellite Syndicate. The Syndicate is a collection of artists who are pushing music to new boundaries in 2015. A beat collective, that’s here in RVA and stretches across the country. Both digital and in your face, the Syndicate is growing a strong fan base in RVA and online.
Over the next few weeks, The Cheats Movement will introduce you to each member of the Satellite Syndicate, starting today with, Syndicate creator, BSTFRND. And if you’re online tonight…be sure to check out their big event on U-Stream featuring: OHBLIV, DJ HARRISON, SOUND GENESIUS, SITTASINES, SCOOPKID, & BSTFRND. The event starts at 8 PM…Click Here at 8 PM to link over or go directly to: http://ustre.am/1lhSd
Now….let’s meet BSTFRND
Jefferson L. Harris – BSTFRND
Leesburg, Virginia. But don’t tell anyone.
Weapon of choice:
The original Roland SP-404, my MPC 1000, and vinyl.
What role do you play in the Syndicate?
I created the Satellite Syndicate, and as well as being a contributing member to our sonic catalog, I also handle the majority of the logistic responsibilities.
First thing you do in the morning?
Stretches and then checking the social media pages.
Favorite place to make music?
My living room in my apartment. or my room back at my pop’s house. Just anywhere that I can relax, really.
First movie you ever called your favorite?
I can’t lie, Star Wars, Episode 6.
Your favorite sample?
There are too many man… That is like an impossible question haha. I love all of my samples equally!
Name 3 albums that define your attitude?
Flying Lotus – 1983, Dan Deacon -Bromst, J Dilla – Vintage vol. 2.
Most played out slang word used in RVA?
Not sure about that one. I feel like slang comes and goes so quickly anyways. I know my vocabulary is on fleek, though.
3 AM…where you eating?
On a normal night, at my desk in my room… probably eating a bowl of cereal or a sandwich. If it’s after a show, probably last in line at Christian’s Pizza.
If you could Quincy Jones – DJ Khaled any record you wanted – who would play on it?
Great question. I’d have Thundercat play Bass, Dj Harrison on the Keys, Erykah Badu on vocals. George Benson on the guitar and Karriem Riggins on the drums. The most spaced out, funky and soulful jazz…
One night in any town in the world…where do I find you?
Lying on my back in the middle of the Congo or on the edge of the Sahara desert, with my SP and a field recorder.
