LAST WEEK, I linked up with the Connecticut born – New York based MC OnCue as he made his first visit to Richmond headlining his own Eight Nights Only tour. I must admit, I picked up on Cue’s music later than most, I first heard of him from the 88-Keys produced track “Kinda Late” featuring Mike Posner off the “Can’t Wait” mixtape. However, it was his “Angry Young Man” free-album executive produced by Just Blaze that really turn heads to Cue’s music. His latest drop is a 4-track digital playlist that will be later packaged into an EP “Boy On The Come Up.”
We chopped it up about his diverse sound, his journey and evolution as an artist, and his extremely loyal fan base. Seeing a young artist, young in years but not experience, embracing the journey he’s on is refreshing in 2016. Cuey displayed a comfort level and wisdom that escapes a lot of current artists. While speaking he reflected that everything comes in due time, and he’s very focused right now on making great music and in a great space mentally. He also shouts out RVA MC (and friend of the podcast) Nickelus F – which is truly dope.
The interview was conducted outside so we apologize for some of the background noise but enjoy the interview and follow OnCue on twitter, facebook, and Soundcloud. The Cheats Movement wishes him much success in the future and hopes to have him back in Richmond soon. #WESEEIT
