After what can be only described as a pivotal election cycle for the City of Richmond and the Richmond region, the dust has settled and 35 year-old Levar Stoney is the Mayor-elect of the City of Richmond. Earlier this week, I got my first opportunity to sit down with Mayor-elect Stoney as sets up his transition and answers the million/billion/trillion-dollar question of, “What now?”

In addition to traveling the city on his “Thank You” tour, Levar has named Thad Williamson as his Transition Director, Bill Leighty  and Tiffany Jana as his Transition C0-Chairs. One day after our interview he named 41 additions to his transition teams. It’s clear that Levar is getting right to work as his pledged on the campaign trail.

This interview is an opportunity for you to hear firsthand how Levar is approaching issues that are important to the grassroots community. The Cheats Movement held a series of roundtable podcast, called The Table, and we discussed issues that Richmond’s new community leaders are facing. Hear how Levar is working towards a more transparent Mayor’s office, better communication between the his administration and the members of City Council and School Board, and how he plans to be a mayor for all of Richmond, including those living right at or below the poverty level. These are lofty goals but his tone is right on the money. We will be tracking his administration in the days, months, and years ahead. As Levar suggested, I’ll do my best to make this a routine interview in the future, and your questions will be front and center.

We also had the opportunity to talk a little hip-hop. Spoiler alert, Levar has not heard the new Tribe album just yet. But hear his relationship to hip-hop music as we conclude the interview. This is just the beginning. #WESEEIT
