I’ve said this before, PJ Sykes is one of my favorite photographers and one of the best in RVA. Check out his new show currently showing at Steady Sounds. His show runs for the entire month of September. It features a collection of black and white photos of bands that PJ shot while on location up and down the east coast. In honor of this post…I edited this photo of PJ so I could say that I PJ Sykes’d a photo of PJ (lol). WE SEE IT! Check out the show! Hit me on Facebook!
My path first intersected with the lovely Sara Gossett the weekend of the Shadrock Music Festival. After battling horrible weather and ultimately shooting De La Soul at Brown’s Island, a group of us danced the night away at Balliceaux. Sara, aka Sister Goldenhaze, was spinning old school dance tunes with her friend DJ Mixie. I was blown away. So blown away that the following week I reached out to Sara and DJ Mixie to get them both on the blog.
I was delighted to learn that Sara also paints and draws. I stopped by her first solo show last night at Steady Sounds to officially introduce myself and check out her show.
Sara was great to meet in person. I look forward to showcasing more of her talent on The Cheats Movement. If you can, swing by Steady Sounds to check out her showing and also click here to buy her work online.
I just ran across this today on the Steady Sounds Facebook Page – DOPE!
Wednesday night I stopped by Steady Sounds to check out Midnight Suggestions. The featured comic was the hilarious James Adomian. He was amazing! He gave a set worthy of a big time comedy club. Also performing were – friends of the Cheats Movement – the very funny ManlyMan! It’s always a great time to see them perform, and James Paulk. If you have never been to a Midnight Suggestions, it’s truly a can’t miss show. Johnny Hugel and the team does a great job and it’s a very fun time. I met Keeley Laures out and about at First Fridays. She has a very cool art display up at Steady Sounds. Check out her work by clicking HERE. Keeley also told me about a great Graffiti site: Graffiti Richmond. Check that too.
During First Fridays, I was on the streets with Black Liquid as he shot a “Guerrilla Style” video for, “Can I get a Deal.” Shout to Black Liq, Lord Slugg, who was actually shooting the “Official” video, Distant Dee, and the Just Plain Sounds crew for representing. And a huge shout to Steady Sounds for saving the day and letting VA Hip-Hop shine. Check out my behind the video clip and all the pictures from the day by clicking HERE Keep an eye out for the, Can I get a Deal “Official” video. And if you haven’t already, LIKE the Cheats Movement on Facebook by clicking HERE. And spread the word about this blog….it’s growing fast and standing up for RVA.
