I knew it was coming but that didn’t prevent me from being blown away once again by the amazing talent of Trombone Shorty and Orleans Ave. The killed the main stage of the Richmond Jazz Festival last night. Shorty’s performance was a spectacular sight at Maymont Park. I’d covered him last year at Friday Cheers and though the set was a bit shorter last night it did not disappoint anyone within hearing distance. Despite the afternoon showers, the Richmond Jazz Festival was amazing. The performance sets ran like clockwork – the crowd was amazing – and the vibe was diverse and inviting. I was able to shoot Robert Cray, Shorty, and India Arie.
Arie closed the show on day 1 and she is amazingly talented BUT I think the crowd was still riding a New Orleans Jazz high so it took us a while to calm down. Check out all of my photos from day 1 of the Richmond Jazz Fest by clicking here.

The wonderful India Arie
India has a new record “Open Door” is coming out this summer.
Trombone Shorty and Orleans Avenue did their thing at Friday Cheers. Listen to Shorty blaze Marvin Gaye’s Let’s Get It On. He also treated the crowd to James Brown and Louis Armstrong. Treme was in RVA last night – Amazing!
