Richmond, VA – Words and Photos by Cheats

Epic Fest kicked off in a major way last night with the first ever Tastemakers conference. There was a large crowd and electric atmosphere at the Comfort Inn on Broad Street. Cain McCoy moderated a brief Q & A with “Tastemakers” Michell C. Clark, JR Rubin, and Thomas Welker. All three panelist are making things happen in the hip hop community, Clark and Welker both have strong online networks and Rubin is making things happen in the DMV with show promotion and mogul-life.  Overall, the conference was a good concept and the panelist did there best to keep their answers to the point and honest. The highlights of the panel were a mini-rant by Octavion on why Richmond hasn’t blown up yet and some real talk by Funny Leonard. The best part of the conference was the networking. With Epic Fest being split in several locations on Wed and Thursday, this was a good opportunity to network with the hip hop community. Epic Fest continues tonight at Gallery 5 for the Art Battle. Doors open at 6 PM.
