ROSCOE BURNEMS BRINGS HIS POETRY AND COMEDY SPECIAL “TRAUMEDY” TO THE DARK ROOM THIS SUNDAY
One of RVA’s most decorated spoken word artists, Roscoe Burnems, will be performing a new poetry and comedy special titled “Traumedy” this weekend in Richmond. Mark your calendars for Sunday, October 20th, 2019. It will be an emotional night in the Darkroom at the Hofheimer Building.
Roscoe Burnems is a National Poetry Slam champion, 2x southern regional team finalist, 3x southeastern regional North Carolina slam champion, 2019 Underground Poetry Slam Champion, 3x published author, and teaching artist. He was the writing and performance coach for VCU poetry slam team ranked 3rd in the world. Roscoe has been performing all around the country for over a decade. He started his career at the legendary Tuesday Verses and is now recognized nationally and one of the hosts for VPM’S new show The Art Scene airing this Fall. He most recently finished a book tour showcasing his 2nd and 3rd collection of poetry Chrysalis Under Fire and God, Love, Death, and Other Synonyms.
“Traumedy” is a poetic and comedic look at the human experience and trauma one endures, speaking both culturally as an African American person navigating an oppressive system in the U.S., alongside personal experiences that contribute to poor mental health. This show will visit the full emotional spectrum of the human experience. $10 advance tickets through Eventbrite or $15 at the door. This is a live taping so late entry may not be permitted.
