STILL RECOVERING: JOE BIDEN & KAMALA HARRIS WIN 2020 ELECTION

After nearly a week of watching 24 hour news about the 2020 presidential election, I really don’t have much to say. I’m exhausted. I’m relieved. I’m optimistic. I’m cautions. And in some areas of my emotions, I’m frightened.

The challenge President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris have before them is daunting. COVID-19 is raging. The economy is collapsing. Healthcare is being challenged at the Supreme Court; a Supreme Court that is now 6-3 conservative. There are too many challenges to list them all, but you get the point. Add on top of all that that more people voted for President Trump in this election than in 2016. This country is a long way away from healing and unity.

My hope is that this administration starts by setting a different tone. A tone that places the focus on the American people, instead of television ratings and Twitter rants. I think President-elect Biden is already off to a good start.

I would be remiss if I didn’t note the historic nature of Harris’s election. She is so many “first” that it makes my head spin. I know she is up for the challenge. She has exceeded every limit that anyone has ever tried to place on her, and becoming Vice President is just another historic marker for this historic woman.

I am happy. I am relieved. I am scared. I think above all, I am a bit tired. But there is really no time to rest. There is too much work to be done. America, we’re just getting started.
