COMMUNITY: RISA GOMEZ CAPTURES POWERFUL IMAGES FROM THE MARCUS-DAVID PETERS MARCH FOR JUSTICE

Hundreds rallied for a well-organized, peaceful, display of civic engagement yesterday in support of Marcus-David Peters. Peters died on May 14 after a lethal confrontation with Richmond Police Office Michael Nyantakyi, who initially responded to the situation after seeing Peters hit a car and continue driving. Peters was unarmed, naked, and acting in an erratic manner. Those close to Peters said that he was clearly in a mental health crisis and that something other than lethal force could have been used to control him. Community Photographer Risa Gomez captured amazing images from the March and shared them with the Cheats Movement Blog. The marchers started on VCU’s campus and proceeded east down Broad Strand, escorted by Richmond police, turned right onto Belvidere Street, then left on to Franklin Street. The marchers paused in front of The Jefferson Hotel, where Peters worked part-time and ended at the Police Headquarters.

Thanks Risa Gomez! #WESEEIT
