INTRODUCING THE CHEATS MOVEMENT HIP-HOP PHOTOBOOK (A YEAR-LONG PORTRAIT PROJECT)

The Cheats Movement has always focused on documenting hip-hop culture in Richmond, VA. Throughout our entire existence, I have challenged myself and my team to capture the events and particularly the people that make our hip-hop culture move.

In 2020, I’m embarking on a year-long project (maybe longer) to take a portrait of every person intimately involved in making the Richmond hip-hop scene thrive. This is artists, producers, media, podcasters, fans, venue owners, legends, you name it. You don’t have to be from Richmond or even living in Richmond, just apart of the fabric that makes this culture and community that we call hip-hop. My goal is that this photography exhibit, The Cheats Movement Photobook, will ultimately be the largest portrait archive to ever exist in the realm of Richmond hip-hop culture.

What can you do to help? How can you be apart?

Share The Cheats Movement Blog and the project concept with your friends and anyone involved in Richmond’s hip-hop community. Let them know that The Cheats Movement wants to take a photo of you. I will be hosting different photo sessions, attending different events, and figuring out ways to engage the people that will make up this project all year.

This is, at least, a 12-15 month project. This page will be updated every often – definitely every month – with new portraits from different events and different photo sessions. The goal of this project is to be as inclusive as we can be.
