MUSIC: FLY ANAKIN & OHBLIV “BACKYARD BOOGIE” REVIEW

Alright look, it’s not a secret I rock with Mutant Academy, Cheats banned me from writing about them for a minute*; but he misses me so I’m back to work.  For past few years, these dudes have dropped over 5000 projects* and have more members than Wu-Tang*!  After some super dope group projects in 2017; This time around Fly Anakin drops an entire album with Ohbliv and the outcome is super dope (I’m Trademarking that). Once again Brad comes through the wild jazz-tinged, funk-infused samples (“Faceplant In San Bernardino”) along with a few new jack swing era sounding joints, ex. the first beat on “Several Blunts Later” with Koncept Jack$on starts off like the gutter version of Dripping With Finesse or seonthing, then the next thing you know it’s a completely different banger and Kon’s just comes through and kills the track.  One thing noticeable is there aren’t too many guest-heavy tracks – which gives it a true solo album feel. I guess you could say this is the debut full length (maybe?), but the features are amazing on here from Henny L.O (Schemin’ Plottin’) & the Big Kahuna OG solo track “Gangsta Party” to the final and another track, “Stocking Caps” with some of the underground’s finest at the moment: Ankhlejohn, Al. Divino, Thrvd & Kahuna all flexing on this track, a proper way to send y’all home.  So, go to Plan 9, they got the physical copies, or hit your favorite streaming platform and give this joint a play. You’re welcome.
