NDEFRU PLACES THE SPOTLIGHT ON HISTORIC JACKSON WARD IN HIS NEW VIDEO “H.O.T.S. (HARLEM OF THE SOUTH)” FT. SAM REED

The historic Jackson Ward neighborhood, in Richmond, Virginia, was the center Black culture in the early 20th century. Home to iconic Black heroes like Maggie L Walker and John Mitchell, Jr., and home to places like the Hippodrome and the Eggelston Hotel.

Richmond MC Ndefru takes us down the history of the Harlem of the South with the help of super-talented songstress Sam Reed. Check out this dope and educational video. Enjoy the bop and learn a thing or two.

I highly recommend the book Race Man by Ann Field Alexander. The book is about the life of John Mitchell Jr., known as the “Fighting Editor” of the Richmond Planet, but the book also documents life in Jackson Ward at the turn of the century. There is so much to learn. #WESEEIT
