THE 2018 SEASON OF “FRIDAY CHEERS” KICKS OFF WITH VALERIE JUNE

The popular music series Friday Cheers kicks off the 2018 season this Friday (May 4) with songstress Valerie June. It’s hard to put into words her sound, other than saying it’s amazing, I’ll go with electric blues and old-time folk – with a twist of bluegrass – and a little bit of soul and gospel. Her latest album, The Order of Time landed her on Rolling Stone’s 50 best albums of 2017.  

I ran across The Order of Time as a recommended listen on my Tidal services (Thanks HOV). I was mesmerized. I must have listened to “Astral Plane” 100 times in a row. It’s a perfect song for a hip-hop producer to flip (hint).

This year’s Cheers line-up brings several performances that I think will attract a wider demographic of Richmonders to Brown’s Island. I commend Venture for the diverse sounds in this season’s line-up. Can’t wait to see you Friday night. #WESEEIT
