‘THE MAXELL TAPE VOL. 2’ BY DJ MENTOS LANDS ON BANDCAMP’S BEST BEAT TAPE LIST

Richmond-based producer DJ Mentos has landed on the Best Beat Tapes on Bandcamp: November 2020 list. This is a huge honor for the Analog Suspect. The write-up marvels at how Mentos fluidly moves between different sub-genres of sound: boom-bap, trip-hop, jazz, etc, this is a distinction that followers of Mentos have known for quite a while. He has eclectic taste, and pulls samples from all genres of music.

Personally, I love Vol. 2. From the opening track to the finale, Mentos takes listeners on a journey that is centered on feeling and emotion. Vol. 2 is not about what artists you can hear rhyme over the production, it’s about the production. Each song stands alone as a complete body of work. The flow of the project reminds me of when I first heard beat tapes by Oddisee and Apollo Brown, there is really no need for an MC.

Make sure you check out The Maxell Tape Vol. 1 and 2 on Bandcamp or anywhere streaming is available. Congrats Freshmaker! #WESEEIT
