THE “V-ICE PRECISE” NYC HOOPS STARTING 5 (A TRIBUTE TO GOD GOLDIN’S NEW SINGLE)

Richmond MC God Goldin just put me in a time warp with his new single “V-ICE PRECISE,” a true tribute to late ”80s and 90s NYC. The only way to pay the proper tribute to this vibe is to create my on “V-ICE PRECISE” Starting 5.

So, What’s the criteria for the starting 5? What’s the vibe of the track? It’s NYC. It’s ’80s & ’90s hoops. It’s tough point guards. It’s that 90’s NYC – ShammGod in the flesh. It’s that secret sauce we call swag. You know it when you see it and I’ve seen it time and time again on and off the court. So, Who’s on The Cheats Movemetn V-ICE PRECISE Stating 5?

  • Kenny Anderson (the true legend): People may not be old enough to remember the NYC Gawd that went to GA Tech and brought his NYC travel ball game to the NCAA and then to the NBA. Anderson was so cold that he still ranks 7th on the NYC high school scoring list right now with 2,621 points (his high school career ended in ’89).  Anderson was indescribable at the time, don’t reach – just get crossed up. He’s your favorite point guard’s favoirte point guard. A true legend in the flesh.
  • Ed “Booger” Smith (Soul in the Hole) You may not be familiar with Booger but that just means you need to pull out the old VHS and grab a copy of the movie Soul in the Hole. Smith had handles – upon handles – upon more handles. He had speed and vision. Jump shot? Who needs a J when you’re cat quick and all you do is lay-ups. Booger is a street ball legend. No college. No pros. And he’s still on the list.
  • Sebastian Telfair (Coney Island Raised): Lincoln High may have been the home of Jesus Shuttlesworth but Jesus and Jake Shuttlesworth were fictional characters, Bassy was very much real. He held Lincoln and all of Coney Island high on his back. Through the Wire may be the best high school hoops documentary since Hoop Dreams. On the court, NYC was his game: speed, handle, shut-down D…I only wish we had at least one year of Louisville highlights (He would have been great in Pitino’s system). He finished his high school career on top of the scoring list at 2,785 (that only lasted a little while as he was passed by another Lincoln player “Born-Ready” Lance Stephenson). Bassy has fallen on tough times as of late. Hold your head. #WESEEIT
  • Mark Jackson: Now we get to the tough part of the list and by tough I mean physically tough. Jackson may be the best post-up point guard ever. And, go ahead and test him if you want. The NYC will come right out of him. Jackson went to Bishop Loughlin and then went on to start at St. John’s before becoming rookie of the year with the Knicks in ‘88. Jackson was intelligent on the court and has proven to be just as intelligent off the court as the coach/architect of the Championship Golden State Warriors and lead color analyst on ABC/ESPN.
  • Stephon Marbury: Let’s talk about it: Lincoln High, GA Tech (like Kenny Anderson), and then he ended up on the NY Knicks. He played 14 season in the NBA and then went on to become a true icon in China. Game was all 90’s NYC point guard and he shot was actually underrated (19.7 ppg in the league). Swag was 90’s NYC on a trillion. Star-bury was doing it all: clubs, hip-hop videos, fashion, what a time to be alive.

Much love to God Goldin and his entire team. You put me in a time warp of NYC hoops my brother and the only way I knew to get out was to go through this NBA NYC time vortex. Don’t even get me started on other athletes and entertainers that embody the essence of this track: Zab Judah, Rafer “Skip to my Lou” Alston and God Shammgod. Much love to NYC and the essence that you brought on this track. #WESEEIT
