BLACK EXCELLENCE: BIANCA BELAIR, FIRST BLACK WOMAN TO WIN THE WWE ROYAL RUMBLE

I love when my worlds come together. There is no better way to kick off Black History Month than with some new Black history.

Last night, WWE superstar Bianca Belair became the first Black wrestler to win the Royal Rumble in over 20 years (The Rock won back in 2000). She also became the first Black woman ever to win the event.

Yes. Yes. I know that wrestling is scripted. That doesn’t take away from the fact that WWE has finally bestowed this accomplishment on a Black woman. Belair, 31, has all the potential to be the next big star in the WWE.

Again, you’re thinking to yourself that being a big star in professional wrestling may not be like being a star in professional sports. Well, to that I simply have two words for you: The Rock. The Rock transformed his WWE career into becoming the biggest (and highest-grossing) entertainer in the U.S. If Belair comes close to that, she will have done us all a great service.

Congrats to Bianca Belair for this great accomplishment. We’ll see you at WrestleMania #WESEEIT
