BLACK EXCELLENCE: VICTOR GLOVER FIRST BLACK ASTRONAUT ON EXTENDED STAY AT ISS
Real talk: As a kid, I was excited about the solar system and the idea of visiting other planets (so on and so forth). Today, the solar system just scares the hell out of me. I mean really thinking about space, space travel, new species, all of that is mad stressful (ha). With that, much respect to Victor Glover.
Glover, along with his fellow SpaceX Crew Dragon capsule crewmates, arrived at the International Space Station in November and will stay for six months. Glover will be the first Black astronaut that will stay on the ISS for an extended stay.
A handful of Black astronauts have visited the orbiting lab during space shuttle missions, their stays were a few weeks. More than 300 astronauts from NASA have reached space to date, and Glover is the 15th Black astronaut to do so, according to the New York Times.
Glover is was the pilot and second-in-command on the Crew-1 SpaceX Crew Dragon capsule, named Resilience. While onboard the ISS, he is serving as the Flight Engineer.
