“I’ve been real big on the Richmond Soul sound. It’s in my blood. I’ve always loved records with a soulful (old school) feel,” PT Vell wrote to me via IG chat as he shared about his new record, “Soul.”

He went on to add that his aunts and his grandmother played artists like the Four Tops and Temptations in his home growing up. So he was considered to have an old spirit at a very young age.

“Soul” is a little different sound from what I’m used to hearing on a Vell record. Always slick with the wordplay, “Soul” allows his lyrics to stretch out over a lo-fi sound. I think Vell’s lyrical style and content over this type of production is a strong pocket that will allow him to grow and explore as an MC. The paring works very well, and the record flows seamlessly.

“Soul” will be on Vell’s upcoming album. He’s keeping a lot of the album information close to the vest right now, but he did say, he hopes the album will drop this summer. More information to come. #WESEEIT
