#WESEEIT DAILY: JULY 11, 2018 – KD IS COMING TO RVA, BEYCHELLA PRICES, GINAI SEABORN’S BLACK EXCELLENCE, MUSIC PICKS & MORE

BACK LIKE I NEVER LEFT!

I’m sorry there was no #WESEEIT DAILY yesterday. Getting back on the grind after a few days off is tough. I also spent most of my morning time prepping for my interview with RPS Superintendent Jason Kamras. The interview is done and will be featured on an upcoming episode of The Cheats Movement on WRIR. Follow me on IG – Cheats_mwc for updates. We had a solid conversation about his views on public education. We mostly discussed his philosophy and macro-level issues but we also touched on some RPS-specific things. For those of you who want to get to know the new superintendent, this will be a great interview for you. For those of you who want to know specifics about how to “fix” RPS, you may want to come back in a few months when we talk more nuts and bolts.

With that, there are tons of things poppin’ off right now, let’s get into it. As always, I want your comments and feedback so we can discuss these issues on The Cheats Movement on WRIR. Email me at TheCheatsMovement@gmail.com

The RTD broke the story last night that Kevin Durant, 2 Times NBA Champion Kevin Durant, NBA Finals MVP, Kevin Durant, USA Gold Medalist, Kevin Durant, the 2nd best player in the league (Next to King James), Kevin Durant, is coming to the Ben Wallace Summer League. Details are a bit vague because I’m not an RTD digital subscriber and could only read the headline, but the Wallace summer league used to be a mainstay for me and my friends. I think they took last year off but we’ve seen some great players play in the league – at all levels of hoops.  KD coming will be the biggest star to ever play a game in the Ben Wallace Summer league. The gym will be a zoo but I’m going to do all I can to be there.

Moving On:

I will be the first to admit that when Queen Beyonce dropped her first-round of Beychella merch in her pop-up shop a few months back, I was disappointed that it wasn’t the gear she wore during the performance. I still bought my wife a hoodie because it was dope and I could afford it. Well, now we see the replica gear and learned the prices. Wow. Beyonce is teaming up with Beychella fashion collaborator Balmain. Balmain x Beyoncé will launch on Friday, July 13, at the designer’s Paris storefront. Items will also be available on balmain.com and beyonce.com the next day (July 14). Here is the kicker: The T-shirt will retail for $290, and the sweatshirts will range from $550 to $1,790. All proceeds from the line will go toward the United Negro College Fund. I love you Beyonce but $290 for a tee — Damn!

Moving On:

Black Excellence in the house! Congrats to Virginia Tech’s Ginai Seaborn on becoming the first black female nanoscientist in the state of Virginia.

Moving On:

Since the video of Ray Rice knocking out his girlfriend (now wife) in an elevator, the NFL has been playing catch-up on conduct detrimental to the league and domestic violence. Yesterday, a horrible story emerged regarding Buffalo Bills all-pro running back LeSean McCoy. Horrible pictures of his former girlfriend, badly beaten, graphic pictures, surfaced, first on IG, then reposted on the website Balleralert, then just about every mainstream sports media outlet. McCoy posted on IG that the charges are unfounded and false. We, as a society, should not rush to judgment, this is a horrible situation, but make no mistake that McCoy is in a fight for his career and legacy right now. And the NFL needs to get to the bottom of this swiftly. It is my hope that the truth comes out soon.

Moving On:

There is a lot of great music coming out right now. I’m excited to post a few joints. The first being from Richmond’s own Skillz. His new track “In a Minute” has been ringing off for a few weeks now.

This one got me emotional. The final video from The Honorable Sleaze. Directed and completed by BC Music First. Sleaze is Richmond’s Sean Price – dude never took a bar off and respected throughout the city. #WESEEIT

The homie Intalek (ATI or Die) hooked up with the good people at RVATRACK to do this amazing live version of “City”. S/O to Scott Lane and the good people over at American Paradox for making this joint happen. I’m glad to see hip-hop represented in the series. Intalek is one of the most talented MCs I’ve ever seen. Dope work brother.

This one caught me by surprise, but anything my brother Radio B is involved in, I have to check it out. “SacReligious (Rise Up) is a dope track by C. Goss featuring Blitz. It’s a powerful message worth peeping. #WESEEEIT

Finally:

Tonight the ICA will host a debut screening of “Say Her Name: The Life and Death of Sandra Bland”

The documentary explores the mysterious death of Bland, a politically active 28-year-old African American who, after being arrested for a traffic violation in a small Texas town, was found hanging in her jail cell three days later. The filmmakers followed the two-year case beginning shortly after Bland’s death, exploring what really happened to her, and what we can learn from her tragedy.

The event is already sold-out but please follow the ICA at VCU, on all social media platforms, so you can see all the wonderful things happening in the new space. Enjoli Moon is on a roll. #WESEEIT

Until next…#WESEEIT
