WITH “2 PIECE AND A BISCUIT” TYRONE LEAKE JR. REPRESENTS AN EASILY DIGESTIBLE SOUND OF VA

One of the first things I had to ask the artists formally known as Cosmo Black was, “What’s up with the name change?” I messaged him that, along with a few other questions about his latest EP, “2 Piece and a Biscuit.”

“Even my mom was like, ‘I liked Cosmo’ (ha),” Leake wrote via message. Creating under his given name, Tyrone Leake Jr., he continued, “I have always struggled with a name that would beat represent me. Cosmo Black was cool, and I didn’t know how many people liked it until I changed it,” he continued. “But I just wanted to be myself. I’ve been through a lot in trying to find who I am and my purpose — at the end of the day, I Am Who I Am…My Name Is My Name.

When it comes to his new EP, “2 Piece and a Biscuit,” Leake wrote about the 3-track project, “The concept is to deliver three volumes. Each volume will supply 3 tracks — written and produced by me, but with their own identities.” Leake continued, “I came up with the title because I’m creating content that would be easily digestible (pun intended) to the listeners.”

“All in all, I want to represent the sound of VA,” Leake finished. “We have an identity that really hasn’t been labeled, but when you hear something from one of our legends, you know that VA. And it influences the industry in the best of ways throughout.”

Leake succeeds in his goal of bringing together three carefully crafted songs under one umbrella. Each song is distinctively different but flows together well. Running just over 12 minutes, “2 Piece…” is just enough to have you wanting more.

“2 Piece and a Biscuit” is available on all streaming services. #WESEEIT
