HIP HOP HENRY’S STATE OF THE UNION: KANYE’S TWEETS

So Cheats’ boy Kanye* has resurfaced with some fake deep tweets, music announcements which had everyone in a copy and paste frenzy for the past several days and looking forward to what the G.O.O.D .Music camp has been cooking up….then. He went all Kanye on you guys. The first red flag was ‘Ye’s praising of Candace Owens, a girl most of us ignored anyway, and the way she thinks; I mean, cool she says things in the guise of helping Black People and get them to a different thought process (victor not victim), but for the “right wing” cats which they love because it gives them a green light to call us lazy and democrat party props (more on that later), she becomes the poster girl for “what we should be like” on Fox News. Then Kanye pulls out his dusty black yeezy season crewneck and goes back to being Donald Trump’s boy and talks about how he loves Trump and they’re both “dragon energy” (no joke) and a whole bunch of other dumb stuff, then later pulls out the mean MAGA hat and Trump loves it and they get married via Twitter and Black Twitter gets real funny after this….NOW let’s talk.

Kanye West has millions of followers, followers who love him and support anything he puts his name on. Kanye’s more recent tweets are co-signing the current president of the United States, a president that hasn’t been too friendly to people who look like me, or my Latinx people, or my Muslim people…or anyone who isn’t a white man with money. Something different happened today however, there was a slight divide with these tweets, people were saying Kanye is bugging and dead wrong, then the “fans” appeared, saying it’s his thoughts and magically the phrase “free thinker” was all over my timeline.

Ye doesn’t tweet too often these days, so when he does he knows he’s going to have a full audience paying attention, I get it, he’s getting ready to drop some music soon (Why else is he here?). He definitely was quiet during the NFL discussion, police, etc. Here’s the difference between what Kanye is saying and representing that’s different from what the average twitter account may be saying on the day-to-day, what he’s saying and pushing, it’s not free thought that he’s pushing it is – and always has been – acceptance from “them,” the people with power. Obama called him a jackass in 2009, his pastel clothing line was shunned by high fashion; the legendary “you don’t have the answers Sway” meltdown was about the fact that he couldn’t get his clothes to “Ralph Level” and sway said why not do it yourself. So now you get to be buddies with the next President, no matter the how hateful he is, and then you mention your shoes.

When it comes to his influence in pop culture; let’s not forget this is an era of followers, I’ve already seen cats online say they need MAGA hats now that Kanye has a signed one…so you already see the reach and influence he has on people, he even has other rappers & celebs feeling ballsy enough(or just trend humping) to suddenly be contrary, I see you Chance. While this was happening I heard an eleven-year-old say he was a traitor to the culture, how are 5th graders seeing past the bull sish but y’all are on board, “depending on how the album sounds” huh?

This isn’t about free thought or just one dude’s political views, this is about influence and the lack of accountability when the fans aren’t fans, more so sheep that see these people as someone who can do no wrong, stop trying to rationalize wack behavior. Almost 15 years ago, he had people running around with polos with the colors flipped up and $200 jeans, now he has y’all looking like homeless people for $1000. So if you believe tweeting pro-Trump (which is pretty much tweeting a middle finger to everything that’s been going on the past couple years) you gotta wake up; and not in the annoying woke tense neither.

Now I could talk about this topic all day because there are layers to this, we know some music isn’t far behind now, me personally, I’ve been good on Kanye for a long time now, the music hasn’t been greater than the shenanigans, so I’ll pass.

For others though, does the artist overshadow the art? We’ve been boycotting and bringing attention to a lot of injustice the past few years and the things ‘Ye has been saying aren’t congruent with these stances but are we gonna give him a pass if this next album is dope? Is he gonna be the Robert Kelly of rap music?

I’m gonna leave you with this; Because for all the people mad at the hat and the tweets there are people who were saying that his thoughts shouldn’t affect us and that his views are his views and that’s it. So do we agree to disagree or does the “cancel” culture show up? What do you do?

Think About It.
